Did you ever wish there was a musical rom-com about all the voices and thoughts in your head?

The year is 1999 and we’re headed towards Y2K, following our two leads, Miguel and Lindsay.

Lindsay wins a short story contest and decides to leave her small-town life for the big apple, and Miguel is a business analyst with bigger dreams. Lindsay has a bunch of different inner voices in her head: a worrywart, a motherly voice, and a snarky teenage voice. Best of all, all of these voices sing. One night at a bar Lindsay meets Miguel and they hit it off, and we learn that Miguel also has a set of inner voices. A teenager, a doting mother figure, and a stereotypical “hit her and quit her” bro.

What I really enjoyed about the show was that it wasn’t your typical rom-com. This isn’t an uncomplicated meet-cute, both characters are carrying baggage. It’s not presented that their relationship will solve every problem; instead, their relationship actually highlights some major individual problems. The problems are also realistic, being haunted by your past choices or inaction. I also appreciate that they balance the two character story arcs. Most of the musical numbers are forgettable, while writing this I can only remember a couple including the main song. However, that could just be that I’m not a big musical fan.

I’ve watched the TV Flash, I really enjoyed seeing Carlos Valdes (Cisco) in another TV show, and he has a great singing voice. If you’re in the mood for a light-hearted musical show, check out “up here.” You can watch the trailer here.
